A guitar that appears connected but behaves unpredictably usually has a problem in one of three places: the operating system, the adapter/receiver or the in-game mapping. Checking them in that order prevents unnecessary setting changes.
Confirm the hardware connection
Connect the controller or its receiver and verify that the operating system can see an input device. If the device is missing at this stage, in-game remapping will not solve the underlying connection issue.
Quick validation
Change one variable, test it immediately, and keep the working state before moving to the next adjustment.
Assign the correct controller in Clone Hero
Open the control mapper and make sure the intended device is assigned. Remove accidental default or duplicate bindings before entering a complete mapping.
Map the essential guitar controls
Bind the fret buttons, strum up/down, start and select first. Add whammy, tilt or secondary controls after the core input path is proven.
Test for double strums and dropped inputs
Use a simple test pattern and watch whether one physical action produces one input. If behavior is inconsistent, test the switch, receiver or adapter before adding software compensation.
Calibrate after mapping
Controller mapping and latency calibration solve different problems. Finish mapping first, then use a familiar chart to adjust timing.
